Barefoot Sunday

In two weeks, everyone in our church is going to be walking out of church barefoot. Our shoes will be left at the altar and they will be given to an organization called "Soles4Souls," who will distribute them to one of the estimated 500 million children and adults around the world who don't own a single pair of shoes. Apparently there are hundreds of churches participating in "Barefoot Sunday." For some reason, the thought of this gesture is very moving to me. Shoes are one of the many things we take for granted in our wealthy country. The thought of being able to make a huge difference in a person's life by providing something so simple is very cool to me. But, more than that, I'm moved by the thought of a community of believers coming together for a united purpose. One pair of shoes makes a difference, but imagine the pile of shoes that will accumulate at the front of our church in two weeks...combined with all the shoes collected from other churches around the country! When we serve as one, coming together to work toward a common goal, what a difference we can make!

Our church here did this last year. We go to a church that has 14,000 attenders each weekend. And that doesn't include the kids! It was amazing!!!
